AAAA is a domain name record, that is basically the IPv6 address of the web server in which the domain name is hosted. The IPv6 system was intended to replace the current IPv4 system in which every IP address is made up of 4 groups of decimal digits ranging from 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. In comparison, an IPv6 address has eight sets of four hexadecimal digits - ranging from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The reason for this transformation is the significantly smaller number of unique IPs that the current system supports and also the speedy increase of units which are connected to the world wide web. A good example of an IPv6 address is 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you need to forward a domain name to a web server that uses such an address, you will need to create an AAAA record for it, and not the widespread A record, which is an IPv4 address. Both records deliver the exact same function, but different notations are used, in order to separate the two types of addresses.
AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting
If you are using a service with a third-party provider and you've got to set up an AAAA record to forward a domain or a subdomain to their system, you're going to be able to do that with a couple of clicks through the Hepsia CP, supplied with all of our cloud hosting packages. After you sign in, you need to visit the DNS Records section where you will find all records for any domain address or subdomain hosted inside the account. Setting up a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type from a drop-down menu, that is to be AAAA in this case, and then inserting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, inside a text box. As an added option you could modify the TTL value (Time To Live), that outlines how long the record is going to be live after you change it or remove it in the future. The new AAAA record is going to be operating in just an hour and will propagate worldwide a couple of hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start pointing to the new hosting server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new AAAA record is quite easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain in a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you require such a record either for it or for a subdomain which you have created under it, you're going to be able to create it within a few quite simple steps and with no hassle. Hepsia includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names in which you can find all current records or create new ones with several clicks. All it takes to achieve that is to choose the domain/subdomain you need to edit, select AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and enter the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other service provider has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the new record will propagate world-wide and your domain name will start forwarding to the third-party web server. If they require it, you can even modify the TTL value, which shows the time this record shall be functioning with its current value before a new one kicks in if you make any changes in the future.
