Transferring an active domain name involves changing the registrar company that provides the domain name registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS entry modifications through the new domain registrar. The transfer process is standard with most Top-Level Domain extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and entail different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves a few necessary procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The lock is a security feature, which is being embraced by more and more domain registry organizations. It’s a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain is locked, it will not be possible to start a transfer process, so nobody can even try to register your domain. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domain names that support this functionality are locked by default the moment they are registered.
Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting
Locking and unlocking a domain registered through our company is incredibly easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our cloud hosting plans, and will take exactly two mouse clicks. All your domains will be listed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll notice the current status of the domain name. Click for the second time and you will alter its status. The update will propagate instantaneously without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can continue with the transfer procedure right away.
Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you’ve registered a domain name through us and you wish to transfer it, you can quickly unlock it via the exact same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to manage your semi-dedicated server account. All registrations will be shown in alphabetical order in your account and you’ll see a mini padlock icon on the right side of each domain name there, provided that its generic or country-code extension supports the registrar lock option. You can find out if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on this icon and alter the current status by clicking on it once again. You can then go ahead and initiate the domain name transfer straight away without the need to wait for the status to change on WHOIS lookup sites, as the change will take effect immediately without you or us having to do anything else.
