SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to transfer encoded data between a client and a hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy clients prefer SSH mainly because of the improved security level. The connection is created and the commands are sent through a command line. The available options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files may be relocated or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives can be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your options are considerably more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be installed plus much more. These things are not possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server will be affected. Though SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs too - Windows, Mac OS, and so forth.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If the cloud hosting package which you’ve chosen through the signup procedure comes with SSH access by default, you will be able to activate this function with only a mouse click in your Hepsia CP. If you've selected a different package, the SSH access feature may be included via the Upgrades menu and it'll become available right away. All the information which you need connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same spot and you will be able to modify it at any time. All commands that are permitted are listed in the Help articles which we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is offered by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can easily add it from the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. In any case, you can activate and de-activate the feature with just one click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you will see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you could type the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as frequently as you want. A full list of the commands that can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this type of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server plans come with SSH access as standard, so you won't need to include any upgrades or enable anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login information, you will be able to connect through its main IP address and the login credentials that you've selected during the signup procedure. As the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions regarding the commands that you can run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage just about everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. That way, you may work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and secure way.
